13-Pound Baby Born Without C-Section - Uhmmm, Ladies??

13-Pound Baby Born Without C-Section
Doctors at an Iowa hospital said a baby born weighing 13 pounds, 13 ounces is believed to be the hospital’s largest-ever infant born without a caesarean section. Doctors at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines said Kendall Stewardson gave birth to baby Asher, who measured 23 1/2 inches, on January 26th. “We wanted to avoid a C-section because that would have not been good for me or the baby,” Stewardson said. “We didn’t want to forfeit the best possible outcome.” The hospital said the largest baby on record in Iowa weighed 14 pounds, 13 ounces, and only 0.1% all newborns weigh more than 11 pounds.

Twitter Homeland Threat Mix-Up
Two British travelers were reportedly detained at a Los Angeles airport after Homeland Security agents mistook Twitter quips for threats against the United States. Friends Irishman Leigh Van Bryan, 26, and British citizen Emily Bunting, 24, were reportedly interrogated and spent 12 hours locked up under armed guard after going through customs in Los Angeles International Airport last week. According to several British outlets, the couple was taken into custody by U.S. Department of Homeland Security agents because of the slang in Bryan’s tweets.

Few Fans Jilted At Last Year’s Super Bowl To Attend This Year’s For Free - What would you want to be done?

Few Fans Jilted At Last Year’s Super Bowl To Attend This Year’s For Free
At last year’s Super Bowl in Dallas, 3,200 ticket-holding fans were denied the chance to take their seats because some seating was deemed unsafe. The league offered the displaced fans some make-good options, including entry to this year’s game in Indianapolis. But only 246 of the bumped ticketholders took the NFL up on its deal to attend. The Indianapolis Star theorizes that some fans who were offered tickets to this or another future Super Bowl are holding out for a more attractive matchup and location. There’s also the likelihood that some fans rejected the offer because they’re involved in a lawsuit over the fiasco. Meanwhile, 254 temporary seats added to Lucas Oil stadium have been given the thumbs-up by authorities.

Megaupload Info To Disappear

Megaupload Info To Disappear
People who have stuff loaded onto to the file-sharing site Megaupload will soon lose their data. Federal prosecutors say the files loaded by Megaupload users could be deleted as early as Thursday. U.S. prosecutors have blocked access to Megaupload and charged seven men, saying the site facilitated millions of illegal downloads of movies, music and other content. The company says its millions of users stored their own data, including family photos and personal documents. No one has been able to access that data since the government raids earlier this month. An attorney for Megaupload says the company is working with the Feds to see if the data can be preserved so users can retrieve their personal data.

Highest Foreclosure Rates In The U.S.

Highest Foreclosure Rates In The U.S.
Citizens in California carry more mortgage debt than any other state in the United States, a new study finds. In California, mortgage debt per person is $313,749, and credit card debt is at $6,434 per person, a report by Credit Karma reveals. The median household income is $57,708. While most of the residents of the states with the highest mortgage debt have been able to support the massive mortgages despite the fact that their homes have lost significant value, California is a different story. In 2006, California had the most expensive homes in the country, with a median home value of $532,000. By 2010, that value had declined by $164,000 – more than 30%. The effects of this massive decline in home prices had wide-reaching effects on the state economy. Unemployment in California is now the second-highest in the country, and 14.5% of the population lives below the poverty line. The average mortgage debt per person of $313,749 has been too much for thousands of residents. In December alone, one in every 252 homes was foreclosed on, according to the report. Most of the states on the list have extremely high mortgage debt because of the size of their initial mortgages. States where residents carry the most mortgage debt:

1.California $313,749 $57,708 $6,434

Domino’s Pizza is counting down to Super Bowl Sunday. Domino’s Pizza Game Day Stats:

Pop Your Troubles Away - How often do you pop?

Pop Your Troubles Away

A new poll is out in honor of Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day, celebrated every year on the last Monday in January. The first-ever Bubble Wrap Brand “Pop” Poll stress survey found that 77% of Americans are more stressed or as stressed today than they were one year ago. But there is help. The survey, conducted by Kelton Research, reveals that just over one minute of popping Bubble Wrap provides stress relief equivalent to a 33 minute massage. The survey also shows that Americans who have popped Bubble Wrap in the last seven days are less stressed about their health than those who haven’t had a recent popping experience. Other findings:

  • 69% of workers would take a pay cut to guarantee they would never have stress on the job again.
  • 38% of Americans would rather never encounter stress again than win a new home worth $100 million.
  • 36% of Northeasterners are likely to feel stressed more than 10 times in an average month, compared to 26% of the rest of the country.
  • 43% of Americans say the most relaxing or soothing color is blue.
  • Over one in four Americans said they would have the most fun popping Bubble Wrap with Ellen DeGeneres (26%), followed by Will Farrell (18%) than with any other celebrity.

Teen Collapses After Eating Chicken Nuggets Entire Life - Parents or society to blame?

Teen Collapses After Eating Chicken Nuggets Entire Life
A British teen has taken her single food addiction to a whole new level. Ever since she was 2-years-old, Stacey Irvine has eaten almost nothing but chicken nuggets. Now, at 17-years-old, the British native had to be taken to the hospital last week when she collapsed after struggling to breathe. Doctors found her 15-year chicken nugget diet had left her with anemia and inflamed veins on her tongue. She had to be injected with vitamins and nutrients. Irvine admitted that she has never eaten fruits or vegetables. “I loved [nuggets] so much they were all I would eat,” Irvine said. “I just couldn’t face even trying other foods. Mom gave up giving me anything else years ago.” Her mother wants her to see a specialist. She said, “She’s been told in no uncertain terms that she’ll die if she carries on like this. But she says she can’t eat anything else.” The only variation in Stacey’s diet apart from chicken nuggets and fries is the occasional slice of toast for breakfast – and potato chips.

Low IQ Linked To Prejudice - Dumb or just The Dumb?

Low IQ Linked To Prejudice
A new study from Brock University in Ontario will be sure to spark controversy. Psychologists have found that racism and general prejudice as well as social conservatism are linked to low IQ levels. The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson says. Earlier studies have found links between low levels of education and higher levels of prejudice, Hodson said, so studying intelligence seemed a logical next step.

Florida Highway Pileup Kills At Least 10 People

Florida Highway Pileup Kills At Least 10 People
The Florida Highway Patrol says 10 people died in a series of early-morning crashes yesterday on a dark highway that was shrouded in haze and smoke. Officials say at least 18 were injured in crashes on both sides of Interstate 75 south of Gainesville shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. When rescuers first arrived, they could only listen for screams and moans because the poor visibility made it difficult to find victims in wreckage that was strewn for nearly a mile, police said. Authorities were still trying to determine what caused the pileup. The interstate had been closed for a time before the accidents because of the mixture of fog and heavy smoke from a brush fire that may have been intentionally set. At least a dozen cars and six tractor-trailers were involved, and some burst into flames. All six lanes of the interstate were closed most of the afternoon as investigators surveyed the site and firefighters put out the last of the flames. It was not clear when the highway would fully reopen because part of the road melted, police said.

Asteroid Makes Close Pass By Earth - Do you fear a Asteroid hitting Earth?

Asteroid Makes Close Pass By Earth
An asteroid as big as a school bus passed close to Earth Friday but posed no threat to the planet, NASA astronomers said. The floating space rock, tagged Asteroid 2012 BX34, came within 36,750 miles of Earth, or about a fifth of the distance between the Earth and the moon, said a Twitter post from Asteroid Watch, operated by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Near Earth Object Office. The asteroids closest approach occurred about 10:25 a.m. [ET]. Before its approach, astronomers had said there was no danger to anyone on Earth from the 37-foot diameter asteroid. “It wouldn’t get through our atmosphere intact even if it dared to try,” an Asteroid Watch tweet said.

Sandusky Asks Judge To Let Him Visit With His Grandchildren - Should he be allowed?

Sandusky Asks Judge To Let Him Visit With His Grandchildren
Despite being accused of child sex abuse, Jerry Sandusky is asking a judge to modify the terms of his bail so he can see his grandchildren, according to court documents. The former Penn State assistant football coach was charged in November with sexually abusing young boys over a 14-year period. Prosecutors say he met many of the boys through his charity, The Second Mile. Sandusky, who has pleaded not guilty, was released on a $100,000 bail in November and barred by a Pennsylvania judge from having unsupervised visits with his grandchildren. The judge also prohibited the children from staying overnight at Sandusky’s home. A hearing is scheduled for February 10th.

Original Programming Coming To Top Video Sites - What would your show be?

Original Programming Coming To Top Video Sites
YouTube, Netflix and Hulu are not just for passing on others’ videos anymore. After years of tinkering with the idea, the top video stops on the Internet are rolling out all kinds of original programming. The offerings include documentaries, reality shows and scripted series. The quality and production values can vary but it’s expected that as the flow of original stuff continues, that will improve.

Twitter May Allow Censorship On Country-By-Country Basis - Do you think your Tweets should be Censored?

Twitter May Allow Censorship On Country-By-Country Basis
It’s a sign that Twitter may be weakening in its commitment to free speech. The microblogging site has tweaked its technology so that it can censor messages, depending on which country they come from. Twitter is looking to expand into other countries in an effort to broaden its audience and make more money, but that may also mean the site can pick and choose which countries can see individual posts.

Facebook Going After Clickjackers - Have you been ClickJacked?

Facebook Going After Clickjackers
Facebook is teaming up with authorities in two states to fight “clickjacking.” It has filed two separate lawsuits in California and Washington state against the Delaware company Facebook officials claim is behind the spamming. Clickjacking happens when spammers put links promising shocking videos that end up showing up on your page as links from “friends.” Then the friends have to get online to let you and all their online friends know they didn’t post the link. Spammers use it to trick people into clicking through to a survey or information from advertisers.

Dracula Monkey Rises From The Dead - What extinct animal would you like to see come back?

Dracula Monkey Rises From The Dead
An international team of scientist on a new expedition have found evidence of the previously thought-to-be extinct monkey known as Miller Grizzled Langur, nicknamed Dracula because of its distinctive dark face and white collar of fur similar to Dracula’s cape. It is the rarest and least known primate in the world. The evidence came from some of the only photos in existence of the rare animal when scientists set up camera traps on an expedition in the Wehea forest in Borneo. It was a surprise to the scientists because that part of the country was outside the monkeys known range.

Women Buy More Tech Products - What is you favorite new tech product?

Women Buy More Tech Products

A new study finds that women are more likely to buy three out of the four top consumer electronics. Females are also a growing video game demographic. Parks Associates asked 2,000 consumers ages 18 and older about their buying habits in the consumer tech space. Women expressed more interest in tablets (18%), laptops (20%) and smartphones (20%), while only 15% of men planned to buy a tablet, 14% sought a laptop, and 17% intended to buy a smartphone. The only category in which men surpassed female interest was flat screen LCD TVs. Parks Associates also found that once a woman purchases a product, it’s heavily used over time and that women “engage in more digital media activities – including watching full length movies online, downloading music and uploading pictures to the Internet – than men.” Women are also playing gaming consoles more than they were in previous years, especially on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In addition, females are 40% more likely to play games on Facebook.

Flying Is No Fun - How would you like to get there? Fly, Bus, Train or Drive?

Flying Is No Fun

A new survey confirms what most travelers already know: modern air travel can be stressful, frustrating and exhausting. “Air travel has lost its spark,” said Tom Rossbach, director of aviation architecture for HNTB, the architecture, engineering and construction company that commissioned the survey. “Going to the airport just isn’t as glamorous as it used to be. Now it’s just a chore.” Of the survey’s respondents, 44% called air travel stressful, 41% said it was frustrating, and 32% declared it downright exhausting. Very few people found air travel easy(16%), luxurious (5%) or relaxing (7%). Not surprisingly, the survey found that air travelers are displeased with the modern-day airport security-screening process. Only 22% said airport security-screening procedures were effective, and only 11% said it was efficient. A mere 4% found it pleasant, while 42% found the security checkpoint “a hassle.”

Hotel Prices In Indianapolis Soar For Super Bowl - Hotel room or sleep in your car?

Hotel Prices In Indianapolis Soar For Super Bowl

Patriots and Giants fans planning a last-minute trip to Indianapolis for the Super Bowl are going to be paying big bucks for more than just tickets. A survey from Cheaphotels.org reveals they’ll also be spending major money for a hotel room unless they’re willing to endure a long drive home after the game. In Indianapolis, where the football showdown will take place on Sunday, hotels are completely sold out. That has opened the door for accommodations outside neighborhoods to hike their rates on the few remaining hotel rooms that are still available. For example, at the America’s Best Value Inn, located in the East Indianapolis neighborhood, a room that regularly goes for $66 per night has been jacked up to $990 for Super Bowl weekend, a 1,400% cost increase. But percentage wise, the Knights Inn Indianapolis has an even bigger increase of 1,758%. Situated close to the Indianapolis airport, the hotel will be charging $725 over Super Bowl weekend, up from its usually affordable $39. Long commutes from Lucas Oil Stadium are the only way fans will score more reasonable rates. The farther out game-day visitors go the cheaper rates they will find. In Greenwood, about 13.2 miles from the center of Indianapolis, a 2-star hotel room can be had for $400. That’s “only” a 700% increase over regular rates. To get in under the $200 mark will require a 30-mile drive or more. The town of Martinsville, just outside that radius, is offering $200 rooms. Really affordable rates are non-existent until one has driven 50 minutes from downtown Indy.

Most Cheat-Worthy Super Bowl Quarterback - Ladies, what quarterback are you ready to sack??

Most Cheat-Worthy Super Bowl Quarterback

A poll by notorious cheating site AshleyMadison.com found that married women would prefer to have an affair with New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning than QB Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. In fact, 54% of married women polled said that they’d rather have a romance with Manning because of his to his “boy next door” good looks. Females said they thought Manning would be “less of a hothead” than Brady and easier to relate to. Manning is married to Abby McGrew, his college sweetheart from his days at the University of Mississippi. Forty-six percent of women said they preferred Brady, who is married to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen. Not surprisingly, the votes came down to home-field advantage – 86% of New York women stood by their quarterback, while 97% percent of Boston females chose Brady. The NFC champ also had some support from Indianapolis – his brother Peyton is a quarterback for the Colts. Seventy percent of females from Indiana said they’d prefer to get close to his brother, Eli.

Baby Lotion Recalled Over Bacteria
Johnson & Johnson is voluntarily recalling a single lot of Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Lotion after a test by the Food and Drug Administration found it contained more of a form of bacteria than specifications allow. The company identified the bacteria as coagulase-negative Staphylococci, which it described as a family of bacteria that naturally occurs in the environment. “These are common bacteria often found on the skin and scalp of babies and adults, and found in commonly used household and cosmetic products, at very low levels,” it said. It did not release the amount that was detected. The lot number embossed on the tube is 0161LK. Acai Berry Diet Pills To Fade From Online Ads - What Ad bothers you the most?

Acai Berry Diet Pills To Fade From Online Ads
Those pesky online ads pretending to be “news” about acai berry diet pills will soon be gone. The Federal Trade Commission says it has reached settlements with six online marketers accused of using fake news sites to lure customers into buying acai berry products to help with weight loss. The ads promise you’ll drop weight quickly – in some cases as much as 25 pounds in four weeks without changing your diet or exercising. The FTC says it is a scam. And it accuses marketers of setting up websites that look similar to those of legit news organizations. After the FTC went to court in April, all six companies took down sites pushing the pills. There are four other similar cases pending.

Working Overtime Doubles Risk Of Depression - Do you enjoy Overtime work or just the pay?

Working Overtime Doubles Risk Of Depression
Putting in a lot of overtime can make a person more vulnerable to depression – whether you like your job or not. Researchers at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health and University College London said a study showed people who worked 11 hours a day or more, more than doubled their risk of major depression, compared to colleagues putting in eight hours a day – regardless of job stress or satisfaction. It held true even after researchers accounted for other depression risk factors, including socio-demographic factors, smoking, alcohol use, having chronic physical disease, job strain and work-related social support. Depression affects an estimated 1 in 10 U.S. adults, according to the CDC. Depression can worsen common chronic conditions, such as arthritis, asthma, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and can also result in increased work absenteeism and decreased productivity.

Walmart Drops Late Overnight Greeters - Greeters, Love'em, Hate'em or Don't care?

Walmart Drops Late Overnight Greeters
Walmart has removed greeters from the overnight shift at its U.S. stores in a move to save money and ensure proper staffing levels during peak shopping times, the company said. The retailer has been reassigning night-shift greeters at its 3,000 U.S. supercenters to other jobs during the last six months. Founder Sam Walton added greeters in 1980 to make his giant low-price stores friendly and welcoming. Cutting back, even during the early morning hours, shows Walmart is rethinking long-held traditions to boost profit margins and guarantee low prices, said David Strasser, an analyst with Janney Montgomery Scott LLC in Philadelphia. “It’s risky,” Strasser. “Consumers have been going to Walmart for years, and greeters have become an expectation. To a degree it defines Walmart.”

Narcissism Health Cost Higher Among Men - Surprised?

Narcissism Health Cost Higher Among Men
Narcissism – an inflated sense of self-importance, entitlement, overestimation of uniqueness and a sense of grandiosity – is more than just an unattractive trait, new research indicates it may be physically damaging for men. The study from the University of Michigan found that unhealthy narcissism in men can wreck havoc on their health. An over abundance of vanity and egotism may chronically activate the body’s key stress response system, and may put them at an increased risk for cardiovascular and endocrine problems. The superiority trait appears to activate the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal axis, which increases cortisol secretion and subsequent stress levels. This does not appear to be the case for women, however. The researchers add that “considering the rising narcissism among both men and women in American culture, there may be potential long-term public health consequences if these trends continue.”

Disney To Let Workers Don Beards
You may soon see some bearded Disneyworld workers. Disney’s strict theme park employee grooming code has always banned beards – it’s only allowed mustaches since 2000 – but the company is overturning the rule. Facial hair will be able to grow on Disney employees starting February 3rd. That’s not the only way the House of Mouse is relaxing its grip on employee appearance. It’s also introducing casual Fridays for employees who don’t interact with customers.

It will also be broadcast live on cable TV’s Big Ten Network and streamed live on the channel’s companion website and the Penn State athletics site. Paterno, the winningest coach in major college football, died of cancer Sunday at age 85. He had been fired about two months earlier, with trustees saying Paterno did not meet a moral obligation to report to police allegations that Sandusky had molested a boy. The memorial service tickets were offered first-come, first-served to the public through the athletics website, with a limit of two per person. Amanda Coffee, spokeswoman for eBay, said the site eBay doesn’t “allow the sale of tickets to events in which all tickets are free to the public” and yanked ads seeking money for tickets to the memorial.

Google’s Next Move, Is It Good For You?

Google’s Next Move, Is It Good For You?
Google plans to start combining information the company collects about each users of its various websites and services into a single profile. Previously, Google said it didn’t create comprehensive profiles across its various platforms, including its leading search engine, Android smartphone system and YouTube video site. But in a statement released yesterday, a Google privacy director wrote that “the changes will mean a simpler, more intuitive Google experience.” She added, “Our recently launched personal search features is a good example of the cool things Google can do when we combine information from all of our products. The change, called Google Search Plus Your World, brought criticism from rivals Facebook and Twitter, which said that Google+ content now buries their own pages in Google’s search engine, and from people who do not care to use Google’s new social network. The new privacy policy, too, has already sparked concerns voiced on social networks, including Google’s own platform. The company plans to send emails to users and post a notification on its homepage about the changes.

Online Stalking - Have you been Stalked online?

Online Stalking

One in five Americans have come in contact with someone online who made them feel uncomfortable through stalking, persistent emails, and other aggressive outreach attempts, according to a new report by the National Cyber Security Alliance and McAfee. The study, conducted by Zogby International, also revealed that 39% of those victims reported the incident while 61% remained silent. January is National Stalking Awareness Month, a time to focus on a crime that affects 3.4 million victims a year. This year’s theme, "Stalking: Know It. Name It. Stop It." challenges the nation to fight this dangerous crime by learning more about it. The Stalking Resource Center of the National Center for Victims of Crime states that one in four victims report that the stalker uses a variety of technologies, such as computers, GPS devices, or hidden cameras, to track the victim’s daily activities. Here are some tips from McAfee that can help consumers avoid stalking incidents online:

1. Cleanup your online profiles: Don’t include your address or phone number in an online profile. If you must use a professional networking site such as LinkedIn for work, include your company’s corporate address instead of your actual office to prevent someone from knowing where you work. Think about each piece of information you include on your profile and whether it would be dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands.
2. Lockdown your privacy settings: If you are a social networking user, make sure to set all of your privacy settings to "private" or "friends only" to keep people outside of your network from accessing your information. It’s also important to regularly check the settings to make sure there haven’t been any changes that leave your data exposed.
3. Be careful whom you connect with: When using social networking sites, only connect with people who you know in real life. A stranger who tries to "friend" you could become trouble later on. Also, pay attention to the people your friends are connected with to prevent your information from being shared with someone suspicious.
4. Google yourself: You might be surprised at what you find when you search for yourself. Old website profiles, online forum posts, and pictures of you posted by other people could all be unearthed in a quick search. If you find information about yourself that you want removed, contact the website or person hosting the content.
5. Don’t use an email address that is easy to identify: Stay under the radar by selecting online handles that don’t include your name, date of birth, or other details about you that a stalker might easily recognize. Once you have an anonymous address, guard it as you would your credit card or Social Security number.
6. If you have a personal website, don’t post your email address: These days many of us have blogs and personal websites, but it’s a bad idea to post your email address. Instead, use a contact form so that people can reach you without having your personal address.
7. Be careful when posting photos online: You never know where photos can end up when you post them online. Someone could find them in an image search, post them to a website or downloaded them to their computer. And if the photo contains information about where you live or work, you could wind up giving a stalker all the information they need to locate and harass you.
8. Create strong passwords: Make it difficult for someone to guess your passwords by using a mix of letters, numbers and characters and make sure that they don’t spell anything. Passwords that include the name of your pet or some other personal detail could easily be guessed, allowing an attacker to gain access your account. The same goes for security question answers. Choose hard-to-guess answers to prevent someone from using the password retriever function to obtain your password.
9. Avoid using location-based services: "Checking-in" to restaurants and other locations can be fun, but it can also be dangerous if someone is stalking you. If you must use location-based services, choose a unique username or alias that is not associated with any of your other accounts to make it more difficult for people to identify you.
10. Delete old posts or entries: If you have a stalker, they will scour the Internet for any tidbit of news about you so it’s a good idea to delete any old forum posts, Tweets or status messages that include any personal details or information that could allow them to find you both online and off.

No More Dodging Facebook’s Timeline - What do you think of Timeline?

No More Dodging Facebook’s Timeline

Facebook’s Timeline is now becoming mandatory for all users. According to the company, over the next few weeks, everyone will get the new Timeline. When you do, you’ll have just seven days to preview what to hide and what to show others on your Facebook page. The Timeline makes it easier for you to travel back through your Facebook posts – which once disappeared off your Wall and into oblivion. The posts from previous months and years are now accessible through new navigational elements on the right-side of your screen that let you quickly travel back in time to the day you were born. You can fill in data from your pre-Facebook years using the new status update box, which now includes support for adding a specific year and various “life events,” including things like marriages, births, deaths, new jobs, trips and vacations, new homes, and other things you might want to record. With Timeline’s added ability to find older posts, including those from the days before your boss, grandparents, mom and dad were on Facebook, users will need to do a rapid cleanup on their profiles when the Timeline goes live. Facebook explains how to hide posts you don’t want to appear on your Timeline: click the pencil to hide, delete or edit a post. You can also use the privacy drop-down to change who can see posts.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund found that 177 officers died in the line of duty last year, up from 153 in 2010 and 122 in 2009. The good news is that the 122 in 2009 is down considerably from the 141 who were killed in the line of duty in 141.

Many Still Smoking After Cancer Diagnosis - Stop now OR Why stop now?

Many Still Smoking After Cancer Diagnosis
Smoking is a famously unhealthy habit – one that’s just as famously difficult to kick. But approximately 46 million Americans still light up, and, according to a new study, many of them continue to do so despite knowing they have cancer. Researchers studied 2,456 people with lung cancer and 3,063 people with colorectal cancer. At the time of diagnosis, 38% of the lung cancer patients were smokers, and so were nearly 14% of the colorectal cancer patients. Five months post-diagnosis, 14% of the lung cancer patients continued to smoke, while the same held true for 9% of the colorectal cancer patients. While more lung cancer patients smoked overall, patients with colorectal cancer were less likely to kick the habit. According to the National Cancer Institute, all smokers can benefit from quitting, especially those who have been diagnosed with cancer. Smoking slows the body’s ability to bounce back from surgery and respond to treatments like chemotherapy, and it reduces your risk for complications like blood clots or pneumonia.

Bonnie And Clyde’s Guns Auctioned Off - What piece of history would you like to own?

Bonnie And Clyde’s Guns Auctioned Off
A Missouri auction house said an online bidder won a .45-caliber Thompson submachine gun and a 12-gauge shotgun believed to have belonged to Bonnie and Clyde. Robert Mayo of Mayo Auction & Realty in Kansas City said the anonymous buyer bid $130,000 for the Tommy gun and $80,000 for the 1897 12-gauge Winchester shotgun said to have belonged to the 1930s gangster couple. Mayo said the guns were believed to have been left behind when the bank robbing duo of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow had a shootout with police at their Joplin, Missouri, hideout.

Super Bowl Gets Social Media Command Center - What are you watching more, The Game, Facebook or Twitter?

Super Bowl Gets Social Media Command Center
Super Bowl XLVI host city Indianapolis has concocted a new way to deal with the madness that comes with managing the world’s biggest annual sporting event – the Super Bowl’s first-ever social media command center. A team of strategists, analysts and techies will monitor the digital fan conversation via Facebook, Twitter and other platforms from a 2,800-square-foot space downtown. The station will run through Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th. The team will tweet directions to fans in search of parking, direct visitors to Indianapolis’s best attractions, and stand by to provide information in case of a disaster. Some 150,000 people are expected to flood into downtown Indianapolis – where the game will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium – over Super Bowl weekend. The command center will utilize more than a mile of Ethernet cable and more than 150 square feet of networked screen space. More than 20 people will man the center for 15 hours per day.

Obama Not The First President To Provide Music - What president would you like to see live in concert?

Obama Not The First President To Provide Music
Barack Obama’s crooning a bit of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” at the Apollo Theater last week may have been the first time the president has showed off his singing voice. But it isn’t the first time a sitting president has put his musical chops on display publicly. Back in the day, candidate Bill Clinton showed off his swagger when he played his sax on the “Arsenio Hall” show, complete with dark shades. Clinton repeated the act during his inaugural balls, performing alongside Clarence Clemons of the E Street Band. Richard Nixon played the piano twice in the final months of his tarnished presidency – once at the Grand Ole Opry. Harry Truman and Thomas Jefferson also played music in public, Truman the piano and Jefferson, the violin.

Super Bowl-Pickpockets - Have you ever been pick-pocketed? What did you do?

Super Bowl-Pickpockets
Not everyone flocking to Indy will be there to root for the Giants or Patriots. Police in Indianapolis are getting ready to crack down on Super Bowl pickpockets. Deputy Police Chief Michael Bates says when you have huge crowds downtown, “you’re going to have an increase in criminal activity.” But Bates warns those with sticky fingers, “You never know who’s watching you.” He says they’ll have hundreds of officers, in uniform and undercover, during Super Bowl week.

Ditching The Bookbag For iPad - Think kids should have ipads vs Books in school?

Ditching The Bookbag For iPad
Can an iPad replace an overstuffed knapsack when it comes to the way high school students haul around their textbooks? Apple is hoping that will be the case, now that it has launched an upgrade to its iBooks application that can handle text books. The company says it will also begin selling e-texts, electronic versions of standard high-school books. However, there are some obstacles that may keep Apple from getting a solid foothold in the high school textbook space. One reason: textbooks are usually bought by schools, not students. And the texts are reused year after year, which isn’t possible with the electronic versions. Any new text books that come out are subject to long approval processes which can negate the speed and ease with which ebooks can be published.

Online Victory - Do you fell your voice counted?

 Online Victory
They didn’t have much money or political clout. But a coalition of online and high-tech companies were able to pull off a major coup when it came to legislation or policies that annoyed people. It was a win over Congress, bringing to a stop legislation that would curb online piracy. Just a couple of weeks ago, it appeared the separate bills in the House and Senate were on the fast track to being approved. But after at least 75,000 websites, most notably Wikipedia, shut down for a day and others like Google began complaining about the measures, lawmakers backed off on Friday and scrapped the efforts to pass the legislation.

America’s Rudest Cities - Where do you think is the Rudest place?

America’s Rudest Cities
In-your-face drivers, unsmiling pedestrians and more than eight million people in a rush are some of the reasons New York has been named America’s rudest city. The January issue of Travel and Leisure magazine gave the Big Apple the honor, saying readers voted America’s most populous city at the head of a list of 20. New York knocked three-time champion Los Angeles out of the top spot. People in smaller cities tend to take life a little easier, so it may come as no surprise that New Orleans, Savannah and Charleston were all ranked in the top five cities for friendliness. America’s rudest cities:
1. New York 11. Philadelphia
2. Miami 12. Las Vegas
3. Washington, D.C. 13. Anchorage
4. Los Angeles 14. Chicago
5. Boston 15. San Francisco
6. Dallas/ Fort Worth 16. Houston
7. Atlanta 17. Seattle
8. Phoenix/Scottsdale 18. Providence
9. Baltimore 19. San Diego
10. Orlando 20. Salt Lake City

The Germiest Places In Your Kitchen - What is your secret to keeping clean?

The Germiest Places In Your Kitchen
“Good Morning America” teamed up with Consumer Reports to find the germiest places in a kitchen. Here are the biggest offenders:
Sticky Fingers: Your own fingers can spread more germs than any other tool in your kitchen. Salmonella from raw meat, dirt from unwashed vegetables and outside material on your hands can all contaminate your kitchen.
Your Stuff and Your Counter Tops: Your keys, your purse, and even the mail can transport bacteria into your home from the outside. Your purse has been on store counter tops and the mail has been in many hands before reaching the kitchen-these items should never be deposited near your family’s food.
Reusable Grocery Bags: Doing your part to save the planet may contaminate the environment in your kitchen. Reusing the same bags overtime to transport raw meats and vegetables can cause bacteria to grow on the surfaces of the tote.
The Fridge and Freezer: Keep them cold enough. To keep food fresh and bacteria free-your refrigerator should be kept between 32 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The freezer should be kept at zero degrees.
Dishcloths: Dishcloths are often crawling with bacteria while posing as a cleaning tool. When you wipe your hands after handling raw food and then use the cloth to wipe down other surfaces, the bacteria is transferred.
Kitchen Sink: The kitchen sink harbors dirty dishes, a breeding ground for bacteria. The sink’s handles are usually the first stop after handling raw food-thus, a magnet for salmonella and other dangerous bacteria.
Microwave: The microwave is a hotbed of germ activity. Harmful bacteria can certainly collect on the visible spills left behind on the inside of the microwave. However, germs can also accumulate on the exterior buttons. Sticky fingers often use the microwave buttons dozens of times between washes.

Tablet, E-Reader Ownership Almost Double - Can you live without it?

Tablet, E-Reader Ownership Almost Double
The number of Americans owning a tablet computer or e-reader nearly doubled over the holiday period as Kindles, Nooks and iPads proved to be popular gifts, a new study found. In early January, 19% of Americans owned an e-reader, up from 10% in December, with identical results for tablets, according to a report by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. As a result, the percentage of Americans owning at least one digital reading device rose to 29% in January from 18%, according to the survey. Amazon.com Inc and Barnes & Noble Inc each introduced new tablets and cheaper versions of their Kindle and Nook devices respectively ahead of the holidays, while Apple Inc’s iPad continued to be popular. The report also found that men and women were equally likely to own a device but ownership was more likely among people with higher education and higher income.

History Of The Chicken Wing - Who has the best wings?

History Of The Chicken Wing
(Source: National Chicken Council)
Deep-fried chicken wings have long been a staple of Southern cooking. But the concept of cooking wings in peppery hot sauce was born in 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, when co-owner Teressa Bellissimo cooked leftover wings in hot sauce as a late-night snack for her son and his friends. The boys liked them so much that the Bellissimos put them on the menu the next day. Served with celery slices and bleu cheese sauce, “Buffalo Wings” were an instant hit. Dick Winger, who sold hot sauce to the bar, went on the road with Dominic Bellissimo, the owners’ son, to promote the item and sell hot sauce, and the item gradually caught on with restaurant operators around the country. The concept hit the big time in 1990, when McDonald’s began selling Mighty Wings at some of its restaurants. KFC rolled out Hot Wings a year later, and Domino’s Pizza introduced its own wings in 1994. They’ve remained hot ever since.

Chicken Wings And Super Bowl Weekend - Is it more important who plays or what you have to eat?

Chicken Wings And Super Bowl Weekend
As Americans plan their menus for Super Bowl Sunday, the second biggest eating day of the year after Thanksgiving, few items will be more prominent on viewers’ plates than America’s favorite appetizer – chicken wings. Super Bowl weekend is unquestionably the biggest time of the year for wings. More than 1.25 billion wing portions will be consumed during Super Bowl weekend in 2012, totaling more than 100 million pounds of wings, according to the National Chicken Council’s 2012 Wing Report. If the wings were laid end-to-end they would circle the circumference of the Earth – more than twice – a distance that would reach approximately a quarter of the way to the moon. Some 23% of those who watch the big game will eat chicken wings, up slightly in popularity from last year, and second only to dips and spreads (32%) on Super Bowl menus, according to a survey by Harris Interactive.

3-Inch Nail Removed From Man’s Brain - Think you would notice?

3-Inch Nail Removed From Man’s Brain
An Orland Park, Illinois, man was completely unaware that he accidentally shot a 3.5 inch nail into the center of his brain – and carried on as normal for almost two days before going to the hospital. Dante Autullo shot himself in the head with a nail gun Tuesday morning but since he only suffered a small cut, he assumed the nail had missed and went out to plow some snow. But after work Wednesday, the 32-year-old felt nauseous after a nap and went to the hospital, Orland Park to get checked out. An X-ray revealed the nail had lodged itself sideways in the center of his brain, just millimeters away from the section of the brain that controls motor functions. Autullo’s mom said doctors were shocked because he was “walking and talking” despite having the nail in his brain for 36 hours. The X-ray image was so shocking that most of the family’s friends thought it was a hoax when Dante Autullo posted it on his Facebook wall. The father of four had surgery to remove the nail Thursday morning. The surgery was successful and Autullo, who had part of his skull removed and replaced with a titanium plate, appeared to be recovering well.

Babies With Three Parents A Possibility - Arn't 2 enough?

Babies With Three Parents A Possibility
Babies with three biological parents could be born with an in vitro fertilization technique meant to eliminate hereditary diseases, British researchers say. Such a baby would inherit its identity from its true mother and father but also would possess some DNA from a donor egg, the researchers said. Researchers have received $9 million in funding to develop the procedure that could prevent genetic conditions from being passed on to children. The research has generated controversy because it involves transferring the parents’ DNA into a donor egg, with the result that the child would inherit a tiny fraction of genetic coding from a third party. Current law bans the implantation of such eggs into patients. The research is aimed at tackling inherited diseases in families caused by mutated mitochondrial DNA passed down only by the mother.

California’s Smallest Baby Goes Home

California’s Smallest Baby Goes Home
The smallest baby ever born in California – who weighed almost 9 ounces when born – went home from the hospital Friday. Melinda Guido, the second-smallest baby born in the United States and one of the world’s smallest surviving babies, was born four months premature August 30th. The baby was so small she was about the size of a soda can and could fit in the palm of her doctor’s hand, officials said. Doctors decided to deliver Melinda by Caesarean section when a problem developed with the placenta. Melinda spent the first months of her life in an incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit. A machine helped her breathe, and she got her nutrition through a feeding tube. Hospital staff said they will monitor Melinda’s progress closely for six years because children born this premature can suffer developmental delays and other complications, including blindness or deafness.

Obama Sings At The Apollo - Should he keep his day job or try a singing career?

Obama Sings At The Apollo
Shortly after taking the stage last week for a fundraiser at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem, President Obama broke into song. Obama, standing behind the presidential podium, thanked his hosts and the performers who preceded him, including singer Al Green. “To know that Rev. Al Green was here!” Obama said. Then, after a pause, he began to sing the opening line of one of Green’s hit songs from 1972, “Let’s Stay Together.” “I’m… sooo in love...” and the crowd went wild. The tune’s refrain underscores a theme of Obama’s re-election campaign: “Let’s, let’s stay together. Loving you whether, whether. Times are good or bad, happy or sad.” The president did not sing this part, however. “Those guys didn’t think I would do it. I told you I was going to do it,” Obama laughed, looking off stage. He admitted he couldn’t sing as well as Green, “but I just wanted to show my appreciation,” he said.

Former PGA Golfer Arrested In Underage Sex Sting - Punishment should be?

Former PGA Golfer Arrested In Underage Sex Sting
A former PGA golfer is among 40 suspects arrested in central Florida as part of an underage sex sting operation. Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives said pro golfer Steve Thomas was charged with traveling to seduce an underage girl and using a computer to entice a legal guardian or parent to commit sex acts on an underage girl. Thomas played one season on the PGA Tour, had one top-10 finish and won $25,781. He last played on the Champions Tour, the PGA’s senior circuit, in 2010. Also arrested during the weeklong sex sting operation were a Gainesville swim instructor, an eighth-grade teacher and eight college students.

Booze-Ville - What is your favorite Adult Drink to order?

Booze-Ville
Many U.S. consumers, despite the sluggish economy, seek a more sophisticated experience when eating out and when ordering adult beverages. The Cheers On-Premise BARometer Handbook, published by The Beverage Information Group, said a bar manager’s survey found the margarita remains the most popular mixed drink nationwide. The martini and rum and coke take second and third spots, respectively, while the cosmopolitan cracked the top five. Absolut vodka narrowly beat out Grey Goose as the leading call for a brand in 2011, while chardonnay is still the best-selling wine because consumers find it easy to order and drink, but Merlot was more popular in hotels and clubs. Corona edged out Heineken as the best-selling imported beer, while Sam Adams continued as the most popular craft beer.

Evicted 101-Year-Old Woman Still Not Back At Home - Thoughts?

Evicted 101-Year-Old Woman Still Not Back At Home
A 101-year-old woman who authorities promised could move back into her Detroit home after being evicted four months ago has not yet been allowed to return. Texana Hollis’ home was foreclosed on by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development after her son, Warren Hollis, 65, failed to pay $7,000 in property taxes to keep a reverse mortgage. Soon after the eviction, HUD spokesman Brian Sullivan said Hollis could live in her house “for as long as she wants” – but that was before HUD evaluated the property and found it “completely unsuitable for a person to live in.” Sullivan said, “We can’t allow someone to live in that [atmosphere] now that we are essentially the owners of the property. The home isn’t safe; it’s not sanitary. It’s certainly not suitable for anyone to live in, especially not a 101-year-old mother.” It is unclear as to when, or if, Hollis will be able to move back into her home. Since being evicted, Hollis has been living with her longtime friend and neighbor, Pollian Cheeks, 68, who has a spare room in her home with an adjustable bed.

Phoenix Transient Accused Of Skinning, Eating Cat - Is there a line when it comes to animals and food?

Phoenix Transient Accused Of Skinning, Eating Cat
A transient has been arrested after police say he skinned and ate a cat while camping inside a Phoenix warehouse and music venue. Authorities say the building’s owners reported a burglary after they opened the warehouse Wednesday and heard blaring music. Police found 24-year-old Russell Christopher Hofstad inside with his face painted and the cat’s tail and intestines around his neck. Hofstad told police he killed the cat because he was hungry. He also said he was going to use its skeleton as party decorations. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and animal cruelty. Hofstad had been released from jail January 10th and told police he had nowhere to go. He decided to camp in the building because he had attended music events there.

Air Bags For Skiers - Should there be some risk in sports or should everything be dummy proof?

Air Bags For Skiers
A high-tech system that is supposed to inflate air bags under the racing suits of competitive skiers is expected to be introduced at the Winter Olympics in two years. A first prototype of the system was presented last week in Austria. It was demonstrated by the International Ski Federation and the Italian company that’s making it. The goal is to protect the skier’s back, chest, shoulders and collar bones in the event of a fall. A ski official says there may be no way to prevent crashes but the system could help skiers walk away from them in one piece.

Westboro Baptist Church To Picket Paterno’s Funeral - Do you feel this is right?

Westboro Baptist Church To Picket Paterno’s Funeral
Margie Phelps, daughter of Pastor Fred Phelps, announced on Twitter yesterday the Westboro Baptist Church would be picketing the funeral of Joe Paterno. The “church” is known for their extreme views against homosexuality and policy of disturbing the bereaved. Phelps tweeted, “‘Penn State Penn Rape’ rings in Joe Paterno’s ears in hell. He partook of sin for fame & fortune. Worth NOTHING to him now. #PicketFuneral” It seems WBC is targeting the legendary Penn State football coach because of his ties to the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, which ended Paterno’s 46-year tenure at the school. In the past, the Westboro Baptist Church has threatened to picket other famous people’s funerals, including Elizabeth Taylor, Apple founder Steve Jobs and Michael Jackson.

Joe Paterno Dies

Joe Paterno Dies
Former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno died yesterday following a battle with lung cancer. He was 85. On Saturday, CBS Sports had mistakenly reported Paterno’s death. He was, however, in a serious condition. Paterno’s family quickly denied the report, but not before it was tweeted or reported by a slew of other media outlets. Managing editor Mark Swanson said CBS Sports had relied on “an unsubstantiated report” and failed to verify it. CBS said it had based its report on a Penn State student website, Onward State. The managing editor of the student site resigned Saturday night, saying he never expected its reporting to be picked up by the national media. Paterno, the winningest coach in college football, was fired last year in the fallout from the Penn State child molestation scandal. He was accused of telling his superiors, but not police, when he learned that assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was accused of raping a boy. Sandusky has pleaded not guilty to sexual abuse charges. Paterno has not been charged with any wrongdoing.
