Chase
has announced it won’t be forcing a 103-year-old Atlanta-area woman and
her 83-year-old daughter from their home. However, the change of heart
only happened after local news outlets reported that sheriff’s deputies
and the moving company hired to remove her stuff refused to do so. The
woman, who is only a few weeks from turning 104, was to be evicted from
the home she’s lived in for 53 years. According to people familiar with
the situation, the house had been paid in full but at some point a
family member took out a loan against the house and didn’t make
payments. Family members say they have tried to pay Chase and the matter
eventually ended up in court, where a judge ordered the eviction. But
after local TV stations, national media and the mayor of Atlanta all
took notice, Chase – which services the loan currently owned by Deutsche
Bank – said it would not be evicting her. “We will work out a
resolution to keep them in the home,” a rep from Chase Bank said.
