Good news
for ladies in da house. A recent study finds that when men perceive
that there are few women, they’ll spend more money. Across the animal
kingdom, males are competitive when females are scarce. Now a new study
examines how the number of women affects men’s attitudes about a marker
for competitive fitness - money. Basically, fewer women means more men
are more likely to throw their money around. Researchers at the Carlson
School of Management at the University of Minnesota conducted a series
of experiments with male volunteers and found that they would save 42%
less and borrow 84% more if they believed there were more men than women
in their local population. The men in the study were unaware that their
perceptions about sex ratios were affecting their behavior.
