Being
overweight can be a teenage girl’s worst nightmare. But now researchers
say there could be another nasty side effect for obese teens – pimples.
Teenage girls who are overweight are significantly more likely to
develop acne than their normal-weight peers, according to a new
Norwegian study. Researchers looked at whether weight, and more
specifically body mass index (BMI), had any bearing on the onset of
pimples. Researchers say it’s possible that in girls, but not in boys,
excessive androgens caused by obesity has a greater additive effect of
acne. It may be also possible that the psychological effect of being
overweight in girls is greater than boys, leading to an increase in
zits.
