Tailgating

A new survey by Advertising Specialty Institute on the tailgating habits of gridiron Americans says 62% have purchased a logoed football T-shirt, while ultimate tailgaters partied like champs with beer, burgers and bets. Highlights include:

  • 62% have attended a tailgating event at a football game.
  • In the last year, 62% bought a logoed football tee or polo shirt, followed by a hat (52%) and sweatshirt (44%).
  • 79% drink alcohol while tailgating or at football bashes.
  • 83% drink beer, 27% hard alcohol, and 17% wine while tailgating.
  • 38% have gotten drunk at a tailgate or football party.
  • 72% participated in a football pool.
  • The most popular NFL teams are the Dallas Cowboys (10%), followed by the Chicago Bears (8%). The Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots tied for third (7%).
  • 17% said they paint a part of their body before a game. And surprisingly, nearly twice as many women as men have painted a body part for a football party (20% vs. 11%, respectively).
