A potential run-up in average airfares for the Thanksgiving and winter holidays has yet to materialize, according to priceline.com, bringing good news to travelers who haven’t secured their holiday tickets. At the beginning of October, priceline.com reported that the national average for Thanksgiving airfares was $400, or 4% higher than 2010. Over the past four weeks, the average fare for Thanksgiving has risen slightly to $407, which is 6% higher than fares for the same period last year. For winter holiday and Christmas travelers, the news is even better. In early October, the average winter holiday airfare was $475, or 1% higher than 2010.
