Bill Pain - What would you do?

Bill Pain

A new survey on the behalf of BillFloat examined the bill payment behavior of Americans and found that 35% of consumers are struggling to pay their monthly bills. The survey also found that 25% of respondents would turn off their TV for an entire month to have someone else pay their bills, while one in five women would abstain from sex for six months. Other wacky results:

  • 35% of survey respondents claim they get creative when then needed money to pay bills, generating money through yard sales, pawn shops and taking on extra work. If that doesn’t work, 22% turn to friends and family for a loan.
  • 51% claim they’re “smart” with their finances, paying bills on time and putting money away in savings; 35% pay their bills but do not put money aside; and 14% have trouble paying their bills on a monthly basis and do not save.
  • After taking into account the vital monthly bills of housing, food and utilities, consumers ranked their insurance bills as the most important bill to pay first, followed by credit card(s), loan(s), cell phone(s) and cable/satellite.
  • Many survey respondents would go to drastic measures to avoid paying their monthly bills; 21% of women would abstain from sex for six months, compared to only 16% of men.
  • 25% of consumers would turn off the TV for a month.
  • 21% would be willing to give up digital devices and cell phones for a month.
  • Only 14% would go without Internet for a month.
  • Overall, 9% of respondents would gain 15 pounds, although only 5% of women would be willing to gain weight.
